First Congregational Parish Annual Meeting |
The 295th Annual Meeting of First Congregational Parish will be held Sunday, May 20, immediately following the church service. Please plan to attend as your presence is vital. Child care and light refreshments will be available. |
Attention High School Graduates |
Our church has scholarship money available for graduating seniors. If you are interested in being considered, please write a letter to the Parish Committee and to the RE Committee. We would like to know what your plans are for the future and what this church has meant to you.

Sharing joys, concerns, thanks, and milestones
**Please let us know if you have concerns, illness, or good news to share with our community**
Milestones
Don't forget! Immediately following next Sunday's worship service, the 294th Annual Meeting of our Parish (founded in 1717) will be convened, about 11:15 am. Several important reports and motions will be presented, including budget authorizations and elections of officers for the next church year. Refreshments will be provided, so please make plans to be there.
We hear that there was a special birthday party planned for a longtime church member in the Old Yeller Barn this weekend. Can't imagine who that could be.... [Don't spoil the surprise!]
Concerns
Donna and Skip F. are continuing to make good progress at home after dealing with a lot of health issues through the winter.
Sam B. says he is feeling OK, but is limited to a wheelchair for getting around most of the time now.
Preble B. was discharged from Jordan after some acute symptoms got out of control. We hope she's on the mend.
Joys
Congratulations are in order for Heather Timilty and Mark Derderian, who will be celebrating the union of their families in a wedding ceremony this Saturday in our Church. Heather's mom, Chris Spalding, and children, Chris & Jordan, are all very pleased; we understand Mark has been quite busy adding onto his home to make sure there's plenty of room for the expanded family.
We understand that Ellen and Craig Snoeyenbos will be traveling down to Atlanta to see Gretchen AND participate in the wedding of second daughter Anna next week. Congrats to the whole family!
We welcome Megan McBride and Luke Anderson as they bring their son Noah forward from the back pew for his dedication ceremony in our Church this Sunday.
Distant church member Linda Colangelo tells us that she and Jenn are spending a few months in Colorado while Jenn takes advantage of a special animal husbandry internship opportunity.

Sunday, May 13th, Mother's Day
"Moms & Caregivers: Holy Obligations?"
Rev. Dan King
10:30 am, Meetinghouse |
|
The celebration of Mother's Day carries significant emotional "baggage," both positive and negative, for many of us as we pause to appreciate those who devote so much of their life energies to caregiving. Our minister will reflect on his own perceptions of mothers, grandmothers, and other caregivers. |
What's Happening in Religious Education |
|
This Sunday in Religious Education: Happy Mother's Day to all! This Sunday all children and youth will be creating something wonderful for a special woman in their life. Special thanks to Bob Erlandsen and his "green thumb" for helping with this project.

Blessings --
Kate Sullivan, Director of Religious Education

Mother's Day Appeal from the UU Urban Ministry |
|

Mother's Day is this Sunday! Honor a mother figure in your life by sending a card that supports a safe, loving, and supportive environment for many mothers who need Renewal House, a domestic violence shelter.
This year's beautiful card lifts up the work Renewal House does with mothers from many different backgrounds.
How it works: Our Mother's Day Appeal invites you to send our card (available at Coffee Hour) to your mother or an individual who has made a significant impact on your life or in the lives of others. The card informs the recipient that a donation in her honor has been made to the UU Urban Ministry's Renewal House domestic violence shelter. A separate remittance envelope is provided for you to send your contribution to Renewal House. |
|

On Sunday, May 6, 2012, our youth and leaders, along with over 40,000 other people, participated in The Project Bread: Walk for Hunger which raised $3.6 million for our hungry neighbors and residents of Massachusetts. |
|
Our group, representing First Parish Kingston, raised over $1000.00 for this worthy cause. Thank you to everyone who sponsored us and supported our youth in their efforts to making our world a better place. |
|
"The walk went great! The kids did really well and the weather held out - it was a fun day." |
|
Each family has been assigned a Sunday to host coffee hour during the upcoming months. You will need to check the listing in the Beal House during coffee hour to see what your assignment is. If you are unable to do the assigned Sunday, it is your responsibility to swap with someone on the list to make sure that date is covered. The assignments for the next four weeks are listed below.
05/13: Princes of Peace (Mother's Day)
05/20: Membership Sunday
05/27: Carole Bolsey / Charlotte & Terry Simpson
06/03: Sheila Riordan / Peggy & Harry Sprague
Instructions for coffee hour and a directory will be available at the end of the food table during coffee hour. We have tried hard to pair individuals up with couples in order to have 3 people on most of the time. |
|
The following is a list of the families who have signed up to donate flowers on Sunday:
05/13: Heather Timilty
05/20: Membership
05/27: Joan Thompson
If you are unable to do your assigned Sunday, please contact Kristina Randall. |

Persephone's Daughters Presents,
"This I Believe"
Sunday, May 20, 3:00 pm, Meetinghouse,
First Parish Plymouth |
From 1951 to 1955, Americans from all walks of life were invited to submit essays to the National Public Radio program, "This I Believe," hosted by Edward R. Murrow. These essays captured a core principle or value that guided the writers' lives. Plymouth Music Director, Lynne Wilkinson, has drawn from these essays for this concert for an afternoon of inspiring word and music, which should prove to be pointedly poignant to our lives today.
Tickets are available at the Plymouth Guild for the Arts, 11 North Street, Plymouth or by calling 508-747-0212 and are $15 for adults and $10 for seniors, students, and children. |
If you have any updates, announcements or Candles of Community that you would like to have included in the First Parish Weekly Update, please send them to kingstonuu@comcast.net no later than Friday before noon.
Sincerely,
First Parish Church |
